Our Process

Green Beans

Our beans come from 6 different countries. Before a bean meets a roaster it already has characteristics from the soil, the weather, and the altitude where it was grown. Notes of citrus fruits, berries, nuts, and flowers have already become a distinctive part of the flavours you will notice as you drink your coffee.

coffee roastery

The Bean is one of the many small independent coffee roasters in New Zealand. We roast beans on site to add another layer of complexity to your coffee experience. The lighter the roast, the more of the natural flavours that will come through. The darker the roast will give additional notes of caramel, chocolate, tobacco, and smoke.

roasting coffee beans

Roast level determines the strength of your coffee. Every minute of the roasting process is critical in meeting our quality standards. From 12-20 minutes, a temperature change happens taking each bean from raw to perfection.

packaging coffee

Your coffee will be packaged in a coffee bag to keep it dry and to maintain its freshness. To preserve your beans’ fresh roasted flavour as long as possible, store them in an opaque, air-tight container at room temperature. Coffee beans can be beautiful but avoid clear canisters which will allow light to compromise the taste of your coffee.
